Our experience means we know where to look. In this case we started by examining their machining strategy.
Immediately we say they were using two separate tools, a roughing spiral and a finishing spiral on each component. Our AKE Roughing and Finishing Spiral does both jobs. Its special geometry also has the capability to remove material fast, reduce cutting pressure and provide a clean cut in one pass.
After the success of our AKE Roughing & Finishing Spirals, we took a look at their tool holders.
They were using chuck & collets, which require three moving parts. We began to run tests using our HSK-F63 Shrink Tool Holders and soon discovered we were able to further increase the feed rate which led to a further reduction in the cycle time.
